GIG REPORTS
AT THE PIRELLI CLUB CONCERT HALL

The last gig Laverne played was way back on January 3rd 1999,as since then deep, intense work on new material, has had to be done, as the old stuff was getting a little boring.
With local band Side Project, also on show, the band was looking forward to a good night's enjoyment. Many tickets had been sold prior to the event, and even more at the door, all money raised was set to be donated to the mayor's meningitis fund.
Side Project opened, covering mainly songs from the Manic Street Preachers, in a set totalling 15 songs.
Laverne came on later into the night, and played an 18 song set. Amongst the songs, without words and hollow, two of the songs from Laverne's new CD, which is newly available, SEE BAND MERCHANDISE.
Unfortunately that night proved to be a night not forgotten as yet. The combination of cheap alcohol, and enthusiastic teenagers, proved to be costly, and resulted in vomit galore!!! and a £2,500 robbery, which was to cost the band the hall, they practice in for a month or so.
On the up though, the band played well, and money was donated, to a very worth-while cause. The audience were happy, and quite surprised by just how good the band were. As a lot of viewers were friends, and had not seen before.
The day after the gig, when all the dust had settled, it was maid aware to the band, that there had been an unfortunate incident the previous night. There had been a robbery, which included a large amount of money being stolen. This was to temporarily stop Laverne from using the club, as their practice hall. Many regulars made their feelings felt, and even blamed the band themselves!!! which annoyed and upset the band, as these people, who the band had never bothered, could suspect this after knowing each other so well, and so long. But finally, thanks to the kindness of manager, Bruce Barton, the band were allowed back in.

This gig, was only brought to the attention of the band, on the day, by Glenn Powell, whom they had recorded with two days previous. The band were told at about 4:15 in the afternoon, and arrived at about 8:00 p.m. for a sound check.
Playing alongside 2 other bands, Laverne played the largest set, which consisted of 6 songs, including 'hollow', 'without words', and 'Satan was my saviour.' The band went down quite well, and was congratulated by other bands present that night, afterwards.
They arrived back home at about 1:00a.m. after a good nights work out.
